I was just looking at the Prometrium website to see if they offer any kind of assistance for patients who are having trouble buying their medication. Well... they do. And if you are having to pay for Prometrium out of pocket you know it can run over $400 a month. Here is the link if you need Patient Assistance.

I was dxed with PCOS in February. I was put on Metformin 500mg 2x daily in the beginning. I continued with rapid weight gain and facial hair growth, so my dosage was increased to 1000mg 2x daily. They added in Spironolactone 100mg 2x daily to my medication regimen in July. I also take birth control, that was switched last week from Norinyl to Ortho tricyclin lo (I told the doc i thought i should be on something different with more hormones but she didn't seem to think it mattered) Unfortunately, I've been pretty bad about staying on the medications for the PCOS. I quit for about a month and decided to put myself back on the pills at the same time i started the new birth control. Now I am experiencing a lot of lower back pain, sort of where my kidneys are. I'm not saying it's kidney pain, but I'm not sure what to do. This started the day I began the pills and has continued everyday for a week. My urine is normal. I have the usual diarrhea from stopping and starting the Metformin. Anyone else experience this?

Pinching/Stabbing Pain in Uterus

I have a feeling this is a normal growing pain, but I just wanted to run it by your ladies.

All day today, getting progressively worse throughout the day, I've had these momentary little pinches/stabs in my uterus. I'm only 12w6d, so the pain is low, right above my pubic bone in the center. It's over as soon as it starts, just a quick jab. I did have a slightly more active day than usual, which could contribute I suppose.

I'm seeing my OB tomorrow so I'll ask her about it, but I'm curious to know your opinions/experiences, too.

Thanks in advance!

Wait out this cycle like I am suppose to but it is becoming more and more harder to do so I prepared my self with condoms the whole 9 yards but now that I am suppose to be ovulating I want to just say forget it. I was so gun ho about making sure my body is healed before trying again but I have been so depressed the last few days that I cried all day friday thinking about the recent M/C. I kind of felt like a fool calling my hubby asking when he was coming home and he said in 2 hours well those 2 hours I cried and cried. I just had surgery and was home everyday alone I know that sparked my depression but then watching all the baby shows and crap didn't help either I guess. Then when I go to the bath room I see some "wet" clear stuff and I just want to grab hubby and the preseed and just forget it all...but then I remember why I am depressed in the first place the MISCARRIAGE! Ugh talk me out of it girls please tell me it's better to wait, it's the best for my body anything just yell at me, scold me if you will!!!! Ok thanks for letting me vent and just talk about my feelings!!! I never thought I would take it this hard never!!!

Anyone with Omega-3 fish oil successes?

I cant afford to do all these supplements, etc. I wish I could. I have read in 3 different books about the benefits of low dosage omega 3 (topshelf stuff) really making a difference for pcos/mood/depression etc.

Supposedly it helps sort of "lubricate" areas in brain and body to assist in neurotransmitters reading the dopamine/seratonin better. Since we also have metabolizing issues, the oils break down with less effort and can travel more successfully than some powder vitamins and minerals.

Has anyone had any success ... or complaints about it?

THANK YOU! :flowers:

Anyone put on Yasmin/Yaz long term??

Let me start by saying I realize this is not definitive, and would affect every one differently. This is an excerpt from the Yasmin pamphlet:

Oral contraceptives have been shown to cause glucose intolerance
in a significant percentage of users. Oral contraceptives containing
greater than 75 micrograms of estrogens cause hyperinsulinism,
while lower doses of estrogen cause less glucose intolerance.
Progestogens increase insulin secretion and create insulin
resistance, this effect varying with different progestational agents.
However, in the nondiabetic woman, oral contraceptives appear to
have no effect on fasting blood glucose. Because of these
demonstrated effects, prediabetic and diabetic women should be
carefully observed while taking oral contraceptives.

With this in mind, WHY has no one (doctors and those in the medical profession) connected the dots between BCP and PCOS? Insulin resistance is the most widely accepted contributor to PCOS. Why has the question not been truly asked that a long term exposure to a drug which is known to cause or worsen insulin resistance could lead to PCOS? Why is BCP (especially Yasmin/Yaz) one of the first line treatments to PCOS without an explanation that it could actually worsen the underlying cause? Let me just say, my personal story with Yasmin is that I had zero symptoms of PCOS in the five years of cycles I experienced prior to going on Yasmin at 19 years old. I began having problems maintaining my weight and with my cholesterol (which is a strong indicator or insulin resistance) after being on BCP for about 2 years. After going off Yasmin (after 5 years on) I began having problems with cystic acne, irregular menses, and anovulation. With that being said, my doctor doesn't think I'm IR (although the fasting glucose test is not very accurate in detecting IR). Also, it has been found that ovaries are more sensitive to hyperinsulinemia than the muscles (so it may not be enough to show IR via blood test but it still may affect the production of appropriate hormones by the ovaries). I just want to get your input ladies. I really think we need to rethink the overwhelming long term exposure to synthetic hormones. The rate of PCOS is getting higher and higher, and no one is really asking why! Just to clarify- I chose to post this in the infertility board because of all my symptoms, this is the one that cuts the deepest. This is the one that makes me wish I could go back in time and tell my 19 year old self not to take BCPs.

Starting to think I'm running out of hope for a BFP. Is there anyone out there who got their first BFP after 4 or more rounds of clomid and was 35 or older at the time. I just finished round 3 of clomid and had an HSG. I was told that a lot of women get BFPs right after their HSG well this was not the case for me. I will most likely be starting round 4 of clomid on Thursday and I am just wondering what the chances of getting a BFP are at my age after 4 rounds of clomid without doing IUI or IVF. Should I just resign myself to the fact I may never be a mother? Most of the BFPs I have been seeing lately are after 1-3 rounds of clomid and women in their 20s. I just think I waited too long. I might not have waited so long if I had know that I had PCOS I did not find out until late August of this year. I never though anything was wrong because I have regular cycles but I should have suspected something. My DH and I have not used BC in the 15 years we have been together and I have never even been late (kind of always thought it was him, he's fine)

Hello everyone!
I'm a little bit worried.. I'm hoping someone else has had a similar experience and can give me some advice!
I haven't had a period in almost three years now, and I finally saw my GP about it, she gave me norethisterone.. and the first time I tried it I had to take it for 5 days.. I got period style cramps and a tiny bit of spotting for one day, then nothing.. So she suggested I take it again but double up the dosage.. and nothing has happened.. is this really bad news?! :-( Please help!!

Can you take Vitex during menstruation?

Hi there,

I know this has probably been asked a million times, but I am hearing conflicting accounts. My bottle of vitex tablets say to stop taking during menstruation but I have seen reports that it should be taken all the time also. Anyone who is taking vitex can they please let me know how they take it?

Thanks! :tiphat:

Hi my Cysters -
Well, I tested this morning and received a BFP!
This was my 5th IUI plus injects plus trigger cycle.
I was lucky enough to get BFPs on the 3rd and 4th cycles as well, but was devastated to lose both of those pregnancies fairly early on, both during this past year. I am thus very happy, but also quite scared, and expect I will be both for at least 12 weeks, if I am fortunate enough to keep this baby.
I wanted to post here on the main board because over the months of ups and horrible downs, I've met so many lovely cysters, for whom I am so grateful. As others have moved on to other boards, other 2WWs, other stages of pregnancy, I've lost track of many. I just wished to thank you all for your support, which has been, and continues to be, so critical for me.
Repeat loss testing found nothing 'wrong', identifably, with dh and I, so hoping the 2 consecutive m/c s were just terrible, terrible luck. I would therefore sooooo welcome from anyone stories of women who have carried their first baby successfully following 2 m/c s. Many thanks :)
Clouds of babydust and stickydust for all of us, and massive hugs to anyone experiencing pain or loss right now. :i_heart:

Newbie in diagnosis limbo...any suggestions?

Hi, I'm Megan, 20 years old, and I've been undergoing testing to investigate the cause of all of these symptoms. I had a 2 mg overnight dexamethasone suppression test to check for Cushings or something else. My cortisol suppressed, but testosterone was still high. Does this mean PCOS? I have a follow-up appt. in a couple weeks and I'm trying to put together a list of pertinent questions to ask. I don't know about ACTH or LH or FSH yet, as this was all I was told on the phone and have to wait for the appt. to get the full report.

I don't know that I'd be completely satisfied with PCOS as a sole diagnosis. There are too many other things going on. But I'm also not entirely sure that what I'm experiencing couldn't all be attributed to it. I'm sure you all know more than I. Here is a list, I'm sorry for the length!

Gained 90 lbs. in 3 years, inexplicably.
Buffalo hump
Pueple/pink striae (abdomen, sides, arms, breasts, thighs)
Amenorrhea (3 years)
Hair falling out (scalp)
Hirsutism (upper lip, chin, neck, breasts, sideburns, abdomen, thicker forearms, thighs, toes, fingers, feet, hands, bum, and lower back. I am bigfoot!)
BIG pendulous belly, thinnER arms and legs (that's no to say they're THIN though, LOL)
Swollen ankles, feet, hands, and face
Acne
Recently developed Nystagmus
BAD fatigue
Recent high BP and cholesterol
Insomnia
HEARTBURN!
Muscles and joints hurt/feel weak
Constipation (sorry, TMI)
Recurrent ear infection and nose ring infection. (Take good care of it, but it keeps getting infected)
Panic attacks
Debilitating anxiety
Occasional auditory and visual hallucinations
Brain fog, lack of focus and concentration, very forgetful..
(these psychological disturbances have left me more or less housebound for years. I get anxious when I have to leave my bedroom. I just dropped out of college because I can't handle it. I don't have any friends, either. It's getting worse. It was all I could do to finally admit I have problems and seek help. These went without mention for years, and I'm just now trying to get help before I ruin my life and any prospective future/career.)
Sharp pains in pelvic regions that last for about 30 seconds during which I'm literally doubled-over. It hurts like nothing I've ever felt before. Then as quick as it comes--it goes away.
Chest pains sometimes.

Sorry to assail you with symptoms, but I'd love to know what you think!! I'm becoming rather discouraged. My family does not believe that there is anything wrong with me except for being lazy and anti-social. Doctors more or less tell me to exercise and eat some broccoli and I'll be fine. I don't have any friends to talk to about this, so I have to do this alone, and being panicky and anxious doesn't help when I need to be my own advocate and assertive. I'd just like to be pointed in a general direction if you have any input! Thank you SO much!!!!
